Located in Dubai World Central, DWC is envisioned as the world’s largest airport. The expansion includes five parallel runways, 400 aircraft gates, and an eventual passenger capacity of up to 260 million annually, dwarfing existing capacity five-fold.
Already, airlines have begun moving select operations to DWC, with a 36.4% surge in traffic and a 23% increase in flights in the first half of 2025 alone. The phased approach allows DXB to operate until it reaches slot saturation.

The phased shift is designed for operational flexibility: airlines will continue to choose DWC when DXB lacks preferred slot timings. This avoids abrupt transitions, and instead facilitates gradual migration aligned with capacity availability. Looking Ahead: The Road to DWC
- Short-term (2025–2030): DXB continues phased operations, pushing capacity to nearing 120 million with operational upgrades. DWC supports overflow traffic.
- Mid-term (2030–2032): Gradual airline migration as DWC’s infrastructure ramps up.
- Post-2032: Full shift of operations to DWC, with DXB ceasing major commercial passenger flights.
